Manchester firm has sights on London 2012 opportunities

Companies across the UK are getting involved in business opportunities around the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, including Manchester-based building protection provider Icopal.

Icopal has already been involved in work on the main London 2012 Olympic Site and is actively seeking additional opportunities to win more work with London 2012.

The company takes the potential opportunities around the London 2012 Games so seriously it appointed one of its staff, Grahame Leach, as its manager dedicated to London 2012 related projects.

Leach said: "Icopal decided at an early development stage of the London 2012 Games that we would try to obtain work for our Manchester factory by looking for work on the Olympic Site in London."

Icopal has supplied 10,000m of geomembrane to prevent the problem of Japanese Knotweed on the Olympic Park. The company is also waiting to hear on a number of tenders.

Leach said: "We have several possibilities for future work on the Olympic Site and await the results of tenders submitted earlier this year. There are several areas where specifiers have expressed an interest, including acoustics, green roofs, containment linings for lakes on the site, membranes for underground water storage units and liquid roofing systems."

The company has been supported through its London 2012 Games tender process by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).

Said Leech: "We've been greatly aided in our efforts by the NWDA. We've attended many functions and have not only been able to meet decision makers and other potential future partners, but have also been kept fully informed about developments within this massive project."
